Very Special Kids awarded Victorian Volunteer Award

On Friday 25 May 2022, Very Special Kids was proud to be awarded the 2021 Victorian Volunteer COVID-19 Support and Connection Award (pictured above L – R Michael Wasley (CEO), Melanie Finn, Nathan Brown, Lou Cooney and Angie Dredge).

This award acknowledges Volunteer Involving Organisations that provide strong ongoing support and connection for their volunteers despite volunteer programs having ceased operations throughout COVID-19 lockdowns.

Inspired creativity

The award is a testament to the flexibility and dedication of Very Special Kids wonderful volunteers, and the leadership of their volunteer team over the past two years. The necessity for online activities sparked some incredible creativity by volunteers, who had fun trialling various online programs with children and families including online Lego Masters, trivia, Zumba and Pilates. They also saw an increase of engagement for regional volunteers, as they were able to access online training and professional development much faster.

Volunteering with generosity and commitment

Volunteering has been the heart of Very Special Kids since 1985, and their community of volunteers continues to inspire with their generosity and commitment. Without this adaptability, Very Special Kids would not have been able to expand their services digitally and continue to provide children and families the support they need during this challenging time.
