International Recognition for Victorian Innovation in Palliative Care

Victoria’s leadership in palliative care innovation was recognised on the international stage at the Montréal International Palliative Care Congress, where Dr Patrick Steele and Kelly Rogerson presented PalliACT | Learn in your language as finalists in the prestigious Canadian Virtual Hospice Innovation Challenge.

The initiative was selected as one of only six finalists from a highly competitive international field, highlighting the global relevance of innovative approaches being developed in Victoria to support the aged care workforce.

The project addresses a significant workforce challenge by providing multilingual, AI-enabled microlearning resources that make palliative care education more accessible for culturally and linguistically diverse aged care workers. The recognition reinforces the importance of scalable, practical education solutions that improve access to high-quality palliative care knowledge and support better care outcomes. The team came second runner up following their presentation. The podcasts are readily available for you all now.

The Congress also featured presentations from leading Australian experts, including Dr Jennifer Philip, whose contributions further showcased the strength of Australian palliative care research, clinical leadership and innovation on the world stage.

Together, these achievements demonstrate the growing international influence of Australian and Victorian palliative care, with local innovations contributing to global conversations about workforce capability, equitable access to care and excellence in end-of-life care.
