Volunteer Facilitators Wanted - Help Victorians start conversations that matter

Do you enjoy engaging with people, leading discussions, and making a positive impact in your community?

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteer facilitators to deliver community information sessions about palliative care and/or advance care planning across metropolitan Victoria. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your communication and facilitation skills to help people better understand their healthcare choices, plan ahead, and feel more confident discussing topics that many people find difficult but important.

About the Role

As a Volunteer Facilitator, you will lead engaging community sessions using structured presentations and resources provided by Palliative Care Victoria. Sessions may be delivered face-to-face in metropolitan Melbourne or online to regional Victorian communities. You don't need to be an expert in palliative care or advance care planning - we provide comprehensive training, resources, and ongoing support. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, facilitate discussions, and create a welcoming learning environment.

Selection Criteria

This role would suit volunteers with a background in health care, community work, social work or education with an interest in palliative care and/or advance care planning, and a willingness to learn more during the training.

We are looking for volunteers with a mature approach who have the confidence to facilitate group discussions about palliative care and/or advance care planning.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong computer skills including using PowerPoint, Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Ability to deliver independently an engaging, interactive information session to small and medium sized groups using the session format and tools provided
  • A mature approach and ability to draw on life experience in facilitating group discussions about life-limiting illness, death, dying and bereavement and advance care planning
  • Personal integrity and commitment to the values of Palliative Care Victoria
  • An understanding of, and commitment to, workplace health and safety, privacy, confidentiality and anti-discrimination practices
  • Willingness to commit at least 12 months to this volunteer role.
