Cultural Considerations for Palliative Care Plan for First Nations People

Palliative Care Victoria is hosting yarning sessions across each Primary Health Network in Victoria to introduce a palliative care project for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Yingawugel bungim yiya: Songlines for Deep Dreaming project has developed a culturally-safe, trauma-informed palliative care plan in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to support Elders living in residential aged care homes. The plan will work to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families to document their cultural care considerations while they access culturally-safe and effective palliative and end-of-life care.

The sessions will introduce attendees to the document and provide an opportunity to discuss how practices can implement the plan and be part of the current project trial. Aboriginal Health Workers, community, hospitals, aged care homes and GP clinics in Vic are encouraged to register for an online session.

Online sessions will be held from Thursday 8 October 2026 to Wednesday 9 December 2026.
