for Excellence in Palliative Care Nursing

Palliative Care Victoria and the family of Noala Flynn AM are delighted to have the opportunity to recognise excellence in Palliative Care Nursing in Victoria, something that Noala was passionate about.

All nurses who provide palliative care irrespective of their area of practice or place of work are eligible for nomination. Nominations can be made by work colleagues, patients and their families.

If you know of a deserving nurse or nursing team who has made a significant impact on the lives of patients and their families, we encourage you to submit a nomination.


About Noala

Noala Flynn AM was a passionate palliative care nurse and leader who worked tirelessly to support those in palliative care. Noala started her palliative nursing career at Mercy Hospice in 1985.

Nomination criteria

Excellence can be reflected as an exceptional talent, quality, or commitment that surpasses usual standards, with a nurse who consistently goes above and beyond to make a difference.

Excellence can be demonstrated in many ways, for example:

  • Consistently striving to ensure the highest standard of evidence-based care is delivered to the patient
  • Improving the patient experience by consistently delivering patient-centered care and compassion in all aspects of practice
  • Making a positive difference with demonstrated professionalism and leadership in palliative care nursing
  • Active involvement in mentoring future palliative care nurses
  • Sharing of knowledge to enhance care and further palliative care nursing
  • Quietly achieving amazing outcomes
  • Values and integrity are embedded in everyday practice and evident in all interactions

If you know a palliative care nurse who demonstrates excellence then please take this opportunity to share their story and have their work and efforts understood, appreciated and recognised by the wider community

2023 Nomination process

Please complete the online nomination form and submit it by the close of business on Friday 31 March 2023.

A specialist panel will be appointed to select the successful candidate.

The successful nominee will be notified on Friday 14 April.

The Award presentation will be held at an afternoon tea held in the Palliative Care Victoria offices in East Melbourne, with the Flynn family, during the week beginning 1 May. A photographer will be present to record the event.

The formal announcement and media presentations will occur during National Palliative Care Week, 21 – 27 May 2023.
