Palliative Care Victoria team members were honoured to attend a special evening hosted by the Ladybird Care Foundation, marking the organisation’s first-ever event in Melbourne. Designed to raise awareness of Ladybird’s vital work and expand its reach throughout Victoria, the evening brought together a compassionate community of families, supporters, and professionals dedicated to supporting those affected by the death of a child.

The event’s name, Canapes & Connection, held deep and layered meaning with this year’s theme being Flourish. It reflected not only the resilience and growth of families journeying through grief but also symbolised the growth of the Ladybird Care Foundation itself - from its beginnings in Queensland to its expanding presence across Australia. As Ladybird extends its reach, it continues to bring life-changing support to more families, communities, and professionals, offering connection, hope, and healing in times of profound loss.
The Ladybird Care Foundation’s mentoring program pairs newly bereaved parents with trained mentors who have also experienced child loss. This peer-to-peer model offers a safe, understanding space for grieving parents to share, heal, and find strength in connection. The organisation also offers events and resources to help bereaved parents and those that care for them.

Canapes & Connection was a truly inspiring and heartfelt evening, featuring moving personal stories from members of the Ladybird community. These powerful testimonies honoured the strength, love, and resilience of families while underscoring the importance of community and support through grief. The night was further enriched by live performances from talented local artists, an exciting raffle, and a generous spread of delicious canapés, all set within a warm and welcoming Melbourne atmosphere.
PCV is pleased to have been able to support such a meaningful and memorable event and looks forward to continuing its support of the Ladybird Care Foundation as it flourishes across Victoria and beyond.
