If you work in disability, aged care or health services, you likely meet carers every day as they support a family member or friend.
An unpaid carer is someone who provides ongoing support to a person with disability, chronic or terminal illness, mental illness, substance misuse, or age-related frailty.

Carers can be any age and may help with personal care, advocacy, companionship, meals, household tasks and navigating services.

Carers Victoria’s ‘Becoming carer aware’ workshop can help you recognise carers, understand their needs and connect them with the right support.
These 1-hour online workshops run throughout the year and cover who carers are, the challenges they face, key facts and referral pathways.
Tailored sessions are also available for teams and organisations, online or in person.
Refer to the Carers Victoria ‘Becoming carer aware’ flyer to register or find out more about booking a session.
Carers play a vital role in the lives of many people in our community, but they are often overlooked. By being more carer aware, workers can help ensure carers feel seen, valued and connected to the support they need.
