In recent weeks the Palliative Care Victoria team have ventured out to visit the newly built premises of two of Victoria’s hospice facilities servicing regional communities.

On 21st September, PCV staff visited Anam Cara House Geelong’s new facility in Waurn Ponds. This centre is currently open to day-guests and is due to open for overnight-guests soon.
We were extremely impressed with the thoughtful, purposeful design of the building itself, and the model of care that will be implemented. It was exciting to be shown around the building, having details of the design features pointed out and explained.
The team at Anam Cara Geelong have struck a great balance between feeling welcoming and homely, and operating as a professional medical facility.

Rosehaven staff and volunteers with guests including PCV Team
The following week, we visited Rosehaven Hospice in Mansfield, accompanied by PCV community partner, Ms. Rafaela Lopez, OAM, Community Advisor (vol) from United Spanish Latin American Welfare Centre.
It was exciting to finally be able to visit Rosehaven, having postponed the trip multiple times due to the pandemic. Upon arrival we were greeted by the managers of the program, and by a group of passionate volunteers with beaming smiles.
The building was constructed by converting an existing house into a medical grade facility. Although it meets all medical requirements, they have managed to create a warm and homely environment – a feature of all services that Rosehaven offer.
It was inspiring to experience their passion and ‘can-do’ approach. As Rafaela said,
“This facility renews faith that community driven programs with excellent services are possible.”
