Working in our Hospice, The Registered Nurse is responsible for:

  • Ensuring all clinical nursing practice and delivery of care of the shift is consistent with VSK and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards, NSQHS Standards and accepts responsibility for professional activities that support service delivery and the professional development of self and others.
  • Providing comprehensive, safe, evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal care; performing self-assessment of scope of practice and competence related to assigned responsibilities.
  • Provision of high-quality care to the children and families accessing Very Special Kids Hospice is demonstrated.
  • Works effectively as a hands-on part of a skilled, creative, professional, and compassionate team.

The role will be located at our temporary Hospice at Monash Children’s Hospital in Clayton until our new state-of-the-art hospice facility (including hydro-therapy pool) is completed in early 2023. Once completed, you will enjoy one of Melbourne’s most unique purpose-built workplaces, while you work side by side with our favourite team member - Jaffa our Therapy Dog.

About Very Special Kids:

At Very Special Kids, we believe that all children and young people have the right to a quality of life, no matter how long or short their life may be. We are a highly respected organisation with circa 100 employees and over 950 volunteers who provide essential, free-of-charge, palliative care services for children and young people living with a life-liming condition. Very Special Kids provides specialist services for the whole family, including counselling, peer support, bereavement support and respite or end of life care at Victoria’s only hospice for children and young people.

Selection Criteria

Working in our Hospice, The Registered Nurse is responsible for:

  • Works effectively as a hands-on part of a skilled, creative, professional, and compassionate team.

Our preference is that you will be a Registered Nurse with at least 2 + years post-graduation Registered Nursing experience, however if you have less experience but have a passion for providing holistic, family centred care we welcome your application.
