Summary
The Palliative Aged Care Resource Nurse (PACRN) role, is a 2 year fixed term position, integral to a project facilitated by the Loddon Mallee Specialist Palliative Care consultancy and the Loddon Mallee Regional Palliative Care Consortium.
The PACRN will be charged with enhancing linkages between Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) staff, in-reach services, general practitioners and palliative care services. The role aims to build capacity in a palliative approach to care for people who have life limiting illness, to improve the palliative care services to residents, and enable them to die in their place of choice ( where possible). A key function of the role is to support RACFs to adopt a palliative approach and improve end of life care for residents.
The incumbent will be required to undertake service assessments and plan, advocate, deliver and evaluate the implementation of best practice approaches to palliative care in RACFs throughout the Loddon Mallee Region.
The position requires strong clinical decision-making and liaison skills and the ability to work with a high level of independence and autonomy. An understanding of aged care standards, accreditation and funding models will assist in realising the potential of palliative approaches in RACFs.

Selection Criteria
To be successful, you will have the following:
Essential
- Registered Nurse Division 1
- National Police Record Check A current and satisfactory National Police Record Check must be completed by all new staff prior to commencement at Bendigo Health
- A current drivers-licence
- At least three years’ experience and demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the palliative care sector
- Demonstrated advanced communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal with the ability to engage key stakeholders and foster collaborative working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to produce well researched and accurate educational material and deliver education
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks, demonstrating strong organizational and time management skills
- Comprehensive computer skills; Proficiency with virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams) & Microsoft suite including Outlook, Power-point, Word, Excel)
Desirable
- Postgraduate qualifications in Palliative Care Nursing, Advanced Nursing, Gerontological Nursing or a related field
- Experience and knowledge working with the aged care and disability service sectors
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110)
