Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced occupational therapist to engage in a new pilot project exploring the use of occupational therapy within our palliative care service. The role is 3 days a week, fixed 12 month term with the opportunity to become ongoing.
MCM’s Palliative Care service was established in 1981 as the first community-based palliative care service in Victoria. The service aims to enhance quality of life by providing specialist, interdisciplinary palliative care and practical support for people living with a terminal condition. Support is also offered to families and carers. Community based, the service is provided to residents of Darebin, Hume, Merri-bek, and Yarra in accordance with the Palliative Care Australia Standards 2005.
About the role:
This position provides occupational therapy services through appropriate assessment (including those with complex and/or high-risk needs), responsive interventions and promotion of self-management for clients and their carers. This may also involve appropriate referrals to internal or external stakeholders Ensure that all service delivery and program development utilise an evidence-based framework, based upon program resource guidelines where available Contribute to promoting respectful and constructive team relationships within the interdisciplinary teams, providing sound knowledge around various aspects of occupational therapy regarding life limiting and neurological conditions using evidence-based practice Undertake quality initiatives relevant to service improvement in conjunction with Coordinator Allied Care (including project review and auditing of the pilot programme)
We are looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated competence in implementing and maintaining self-care routines including reflective practice
- Competence with electronic client and carer records and computer skills
- Experience in working with people living with a life-limiting condition and their carers
- A sound understanding of community based palliative care service provision
Selection Criteria
Essential:
- A tertiary qualification in occupational therapy and current registration
- The ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team setting
- Demonstrated experience in providing occupational therapy in a palliative care, community health or related field
- Demonstrated competence in providing occupational therapy to people of varied social, cultural, and religious backgrounds
Screening Criteria:
- National Police check
- Working with Children check
- Valid Victorian Drivers license
- Right to Work in Australia
- Up to date with COVID-19 Vaccinations or valid medical exemption
