Summary
Austin Health is the major provider of tertiary health services, health professional education and research across three campuses in the north-east of Melbourne and state-wide. The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre (ONJ Centre) provides comprehensive cancer treatment services, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology and wellness and supportive care programs, with strong links to the surgical oncology units, and one of Australia’s largest cancer clinical trials centres. The ONJ Centre also includes Ward 8 South, a specialist 24 bed palliative care unit. Close collaboration occurs between the patient and families, referring units, the multidisciplinary ward team and community palliative care, to provide symptom management, home discharge planning and end of life care for patients with cancer and other life limiting illnesses, in a supportive environment.
About the role
This full-time, permanent Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) role is recognised as the leader of the nursing team who models the core values of Austin Health through effective leadership and management of the clinical nursing and support staff Ward 8 South, and as part of the broader Palliative Care, ONJ Centre and NUM leadership teams.
Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Nursing Registration with a relevant Post-Graduate Qualification in Palliative Care or related field.
- Suitable clinical experience in end of life and palliative care.
- Previous management and leadership experience.
- A patient-centered approach to evidence-based care delivery.
- A demonstrated commitment to quality, best practice, and safety.
- The ability to build a dynamic team which works effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
- The ability to implement, lead and support change.
