The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre (ONJ Centre) provides comprehensive cancer services, including medical oncology, clinical haematology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, wellness and supportive care programs, and palliative care services. Palliative Care Services includes a 24-bed specialist inpatient Palliative Care Unit, a Consultancy service to inpatients and outpatient of Austin Health, and acute palliative care services to patients at home or residential aged care facilities. Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultants work collaboratively with medical staff to deliver all elements of the Palliative Care Service.

About The Role: 

The Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Consultant Manager requires shared clinical and managerial responsibility. The position involves the incumbent to provide clinical nurse consultancy for at least 60% of the role and operational leadership and management for up to 40% of the role within the Palliative Care CNC team. The position aim is to lead the allocated clinical nurse consultant team, advance nursing practice within the specialty, optimise nursing care and health outcomes for patients receiving palliative care, that align with professional, organisational, legal and ethical standards. The management element of the role works collaboratively with the Director Palliative Care and Nurse Unit Manager of the Palliative Care Unit to implement, evaluate, and coordinate the Austin Health strategic and operational plan, develop/review and strive to improve Palliative Care Services, by effective use of resources, for optimal patient outcomes and experience.

Selection Criteria
  • Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia 
  • Post graduate qualification in palliative care nursing or other equivalent advanced practice nursing qualification
  • Demonstrated nursing experience in specialist palliative care in an inpatient, ambulatory and community setting, at a advanced practice nursing level 
  • Demonstrated experience in a CNC and/or nursing leadership/management role, including strategic planning, service improvement, human resource and budgetary management 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional standards and application of nursing professional practice frameworks
