Aboriginal Palliative Care Program

The aims of this program are:
  • To create a culturally safe palliative care service system that is respectful of and responsive to the cultural, spiritual and other needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people
  • To raise awareness of palliative care and improve access by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people so they can receive palliative care when and wherever they need it
  • To develop a positive and enduring relationships between palliative care services and Aboriginal community controlled health organisations (ACCHOs).

The program is lead by the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) and funded by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services.

Palliative Care Victoria works with VACCHO, palliative care consortia and palliative care services to advance the aims of the Victorian Aboriginal Palliative Care Program.
